Where Kululu is the better choice

  • Video uploads. Kululu accepts video. TacBoard is photos and text messages only.
  • Approve-before-display. Kululu can hold every upload for approval. TacBoard's filter flags suspect content into a queue, and everything else goes straight to the screen.
  • A free tier for very small gatherings.

Where TacBoard is the better choice

  • Texting. TacBoard's $159 and monthly plans give the event its own phone number, so guests who will not scan a QR code can still send photos. Kululu is QR and link only.
  • Published, flat prices. TacBoard lists every price on its pricing page: $49, $159 and $99/month, with unlimited guests and photos on all of them.
  • A gallery that does not expire. TacBoard keeps your gallery available to view, share and download indefinitely.
  • A venue-ready monthly plan at a published $99/month with a number that never changes.

Why texting matters for some crowds

QR codes work well for young, phone-confident crowds. At weddings, memorials, awards dinners and reunions, a meaningful share of guests are older, distracted or simply will not open a camera app to scan a code at a dinner table. Almost every one of them knows how to text a photo.

TacBoard's $159 plan gives the event its own phone number and a QR code, so each guest can use whichever is easier. The first time someone texts, TacBoard asks for their name and labels their photos with it.

How to choose

  1. Will a lot of your guests be over 60, or not phone-savvy? Choose a service with text-message uploads.
  2. Do you need video? TacBoard does not accept video uploads, so choose a service that does.
  3. How long do you want the photos? Check each service's deletion date. TacBoard's gallery does not expire.
  4. Is the big screen the point? If the live slideshow is the centerpiece of the event, test it with Try TacBoard or the other service's demo at the venue.
  5. Running more than a few events a year? Compare monthly plans. TacBoard's is $99/month.
